“Enjoy the little things.” It’s a phrase so cliche, it has hardly any meaning anymore. Unfortunately, especially in a world with technology constantly at our fingertips, offering us endless knowledge, we miss the small, enjoyable moments in our lives that God gave to us as a fulfilling, breathtaking, satisfying, relaxing relief from the normal chaos. Don’t worry about “enjoying the little things”, but, rather, enjoy all things.
The book The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom is such an inspiration to me, especially while she was in the concentration camps with her sister, Betsy. I remember one passage in the book, in particular, speaking about being thankful for everything. While Betsy and Corrie sat on flea-infested beds, praying, Corrie begrudgingly thanked God for the fleas after much prompting from Betsy. It turns out, however, that the fleas prevented any supervision from occurring in those rooms, allowing the two sisters to preach the word of God to all the women that bunked with them.
This is such a beautiful example of being thankful for all things. God gave us everything we have, even if we do not like it in the moment, he has a plan behind it. This week, try to take all your circumstances to God: the good, the bad, and the in-between.
