Weekly Challenge – August 29, 2021

I don’t know about you, but my life has had a lot of uncertainty lately. I think, as human beings, we search for a feeling of comfort found in habit or repetition. If something is happening again and again, we get used to it and are okay with it because we know how to handle all of the challenges that accompany it. That is not how God works, though. God wants us to rest in him, not in the comfort of repetition. When we start to find ourselves comfortable with our circumstances, we become lukewarm, as we read a warning about in Revelation:

“‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

Revelation 3:15-16; English Standard Version; Crossway, Student Study Bible

We need to continue to rest in God and be okay with life, even when it is not providing the comfortable repetition that we so desperately crave. It is when we are least comfortable with our circumstances that we so earnestly seek the one who offers all wisdom to us!

To know wisdom and instruction,

to understand words of insight,

to receive instruction in wise dealing,

in righteousness, justice, and equity;

to give prudence to the simple,

knowledge and discretion to the youth-

Let the wise hear and increase in learning,

and the one who understands obtain guidance,

to understand a proverb and a saying,

the words of the wise and their riddles.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge;

fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:2-7; English Standard Version; Crossway, Student Study Bible
