Weekly Encouragement

September 5th to September 11th

We sing it over and over again, nearly every time we sing a worship song, I am sure. We hear it in Church, in our homes, and in our personal lives. It is one of those “Christian phrases” that never ceases to get bounced around, but never gets more than a single thought. Well, right now, you have a second. Think about it: God is your PROVIDER. What does that mean? Does it mean that God will give you anything you want? Does it mean God will relieve you from your current situation? Does it mean God knows what you want, and gives it to you? Does it mean God knows what you need, and gives it to you?

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say,

“The Lord is my helper;

I will not fear;

what can man do to me?”

Hebrews 13:5-6; English Standard Version; Crossway, Student Study Bible

What does it mean when we are told that God is our provider? It means that God gives us everything we need through him. That does not mean we will not have tribulation. That does not mean we will be free of suffering. That does not even mean that we will never have lack on this earth. It does mean that our hope, our sustenance, and our salvation rests solely in Jesus.
